Course Overview

This one-day intensive workshop provides participants with essential lifesaving skills needed to respond to common emergencies. Through demonstrations and supervised hands-on practice, participants will learn CPR techniques, choking response, wound management, bleeding control, shock treatment, emergency preparedness, and safe decision-making in crisis situations.

• Target Audience: Individuals, families, homesteaders, and community members

• Duration: 1 day (8 hours, including breaks)

• Format: Classroom instruction, hands-on demonstrations, scenario practice

Schedule & Content Outline

  • 9:00–9:30 AM - Welcome & Orientation

  • Workshop goals, safety briefing, overview of lifesaving principles.

  • Discussion

  • Understand expectations and emergency response mindset.

9:30–10:30 AM - Session 1: Understanding Emergencies

  • Scene safety, assessing victims, calling for help, legal considerations.

  • Lecture + Discussion

  • Evaluate emergency situations and take appropriate first actions.

10:30–11:30 AM - Session 2: CPR Basics (Adult & Child)

  • Chest compressions, rescue breathing, AED introduction.

  • Demo + Hands-On

  • Perform CPR confidently and follow AED prompts.

11:30 AM–12:15 PM - Session 3: Choking Response

  • Heimlich maneuver, infant choking, self-rescue techniques.

  • Demo + Practice

  • Apply correct choking intervention methods.

12:15–1:00 PM - Lunch Break

  • Optional Q&A about personal preparedness kits.

  • Discussion

  • Explore realistic emergency scenarios.

1:00–2:00 PM - Session 4: Wound Care & Bleeding Control

  • Pressure application, wound packing, tourniquet use.

  • Hands-On Practice

  • Stop bleeding effectively and safely.

2:00–3:00 PM - Session 5: Shock, Burns & Environmental Injuries

  • Recognizing shock, burn treatment, heat/cold injuries, dehydration.

  • Lecture + Demo

  • Provide initial aid for environmental and trauma injuries.

3:00–4:00 PM - Session 6: Splints, Breaks & Immobilization

  • Handling fractures, making improvised splints, moving victims safely.

  • Hands-On

  • Stabilize injuries using available materials.

4:00–4:30 PM - Session 7: Emergency Preparedness Planning

  • Building first-aid kits, emergency communication plans, homestead safety.

  • Lecture + Discussion

  • Prepare a personal or family emergency readiness plan.

4:30–5:00 PM - Wrap-Up

  • Review, final questions,

  • Discussion

  • Demonstrate understanding of core lifesaving skills.
